Scope
Documenting the impact of Made in Sat, a platform bringing art into rural areas and promoting local artisans.
Drawn by my Romanian heritage, I traveled to the Transylvanian town of Marin to document the impact of Made in Sat, a platform that brings art and visibility to the countryside, championing the work of local artisans. I spent a week fully immersed in the community alongside the founder, Marina.
The resulting campaign weaves together multiple mediums: including photography, a short film, and a Substack series to celebrate the vibrant work Marina and her community are building for both locals and visitors.
Made In Sat: The only chess maker left
My road trip towards Marin, north-west of Romania, began with an unexpected visit to the last chess maker of Izvoru Crişului, where decades of craftsmanship are preserved in a quiet home atelier.
Albert began hand-carving chess pieces at just 13.
For over 60 years, he has honed his skill, now shaping a piece in mere seconds with a breathtaking dexterity.
Each hazelnut wood set, polished to a flawless shine, is a masterpiece.
